Tech Teen: Bridging the Digital Divide Two people apply for an administrative position fresh out of high school. One learned how to use Word, Excel and the rest of the Office suite as part of his secondary education. The other went to a school without resources to support computer education. Who gets hired?
Without computer skills, Candidate 2, and thousands of other young people across the country, have little chance of advancing their position in life. With technology training, however, the door to a world of opportunities swings open.
Enter Tech Teen.
The Tech Teen program bridges the Digital Divide by delivering teen-friendly, IC3-based technology training to young people who might not otherwise have access to computer training that can help them fulfill their potential. The IC3 curriculum has become the certification standard for computer literacy. Tech Teen presents IC3-based lessons using situations, language and real-world examples that resonate with the teen market. The program is offered at two levels:
Course I: Introduction to Computer Skills: This course presents the most critical elements of the IC3 curriculum. If Tech Teen participants complete only Phase I of the program, they develop skills that make them more advanced and marketable technology users.
Course II: Advanced Computer Skills: This course is designed for students who wish to continue their technology education, and perhaps ultimately pursue IC3 certification. This advanced course encompasses all IC3 material not addressed in the introductory course.

Both of these courses present content and hands-on exercises in the following areas:
- Computer Fundamentals, which introduces students to computer hardware, software and operating systems.
- Key Applications, which lets teens go "hands-on" with computer applications. They learn how word processors and spreadsheets work, and how to use all the tricks that most people don't know.
- Living Online, which launches teens into cyberspace. While many students surf the Internet and send e-mails like pros, this module shows teens the structure of the Web and how to take advantage of its full potential.

Tech Teen's group licensing program is perfect for schools, nonprofits and other organizations that want to offer comprehensive computer training to groups of teenagers. Discount pricing is available for bulk license purchases by organizations planning ongoing programs. Single licenses can be purchased for self-starters looking to advance their computer skills.
The Tech Teen curriculum is available to registered users through an Internet-based Learning Management System. This system tracks each user's progress through the modules. Students' mastery of the content is evaluated through short "brain games" at the end of each topic and with more advanced tests at the end of each module. A final game-like test is also included at the end of the course. All testing is designed to help teens pass the standardized IC3 certification test, should they choose to take it.
